Banksia Renewed

Interior Architecture & Design

Banksia Renewed transforms a sprawling bushland property in Wonga Park into a warm and functional family retreat. Inspired by the resilience of the Banksia and the surrounding wild reserve, this project brings light, order, and purpose to an older home.

Design for the project began in 2021, with a long-term masterplan developed to guide the home’s transformation over time. The first stage of the works was completed in early 2026, demonstrating how a clear architectural masterplan can allow a home to evolve in multiple stages while aligning with the client’s priorities, budget, and lifestyle.

With a focus on natural materials, distributed storage, and strategic design, Banksia Renewed celebrates renewal and growth while honouring the home’s bushland setting.

  • A young entrepreneurial couple, captivated by the charm of a sprawling bushland property in Wonga Park, envisioned transforming the older home into a modern family haven. Nestled on acreage with a pool, tennis court, and a stunning reserve backdrop, the property offered endless potential. Their brief sought to maximise the use of existing spaces while infusing warmth, functionality, and a seamless connection to nature—perfect for raising their two young children in a lifestyle that balances work and play.

  • Space was never a problem in this home. The confusion the clients had was how to best utilise it. Understanding how their family operated an analysing the spaces available helped us define a strategy forward together.

With 2.4m high existing ceilings and a deep footprint, caused by an earlier extension, it was critical to bring light into the centre of the space. Distributed storage plays a vital role in keeping a household tidy and a warmth is added to the spaces by incorporating timber and natural stones into those designs.
